1973 (Senior)
Steve was an All-Big Eight performer and logged 70 tackles his senior year, 27 unassisted, 43 assisted. He also intercepted one pass and broke up six others. Manstedt returned a fumble 65 yards in the 1974 Cotton Bowl game. For Steve's play he earned himself a place in the 1974 NFl Draft, being selected in the fourth round by the Houston Oilers (79th Overall). He later signed with the World Football League. In addition to succeeding on the field, Steve earned a spot on the All-Big Eight Academic Conference team.
Steve was a main reason why the Huskers had the best passing defense in the Big Eight for the second straight year, only allowing 39.9 yards per game. Nebraska ranked second in total defense at 245.8 yards per game, behind only Oklahoma.
1972 (Junior)
Manstedt earned second team All-Big Eight as an outstanding junior as he logged 32 tackles and 29 assisted for 61 total. He also intercepted two passes and knocked down three others.
Nebraska had the best defense in the Big Eight, allowing just 219.2 yards per game. The Huskers ranked first in passing defense (106.5 ypg) and second in rushing defense (112.7 ypg).
1971 (Sophomore)
Steve was an outstanding backup for John Adkins on the 1971 National Title team. He finished with 12 tackles, eight unassisted and two for a loss of 12 yards and broke up one pass.
Wahoo High School (Wahoo, Nebraska)
Manstedt was an All-State football player under Coach Vernon Thomsen. In addition to football he was a standout in track and field winning state titles in the shot put and discus. Steve was an industrial arts major in Teachers College and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Manstedt
