1971 (Senior)

Brownson's play helped Nebraska field a 12-0 record and their second straight National Championship over national power Alabama. Brownson had many snaps throughout the 1971 season. Finishing the season with 133 passing yards throwing for 1 TD with a percentage of .410. Brownson also ran for 84 yards with 4 rushing TD's concluding his senior season. 

1970 (Junior)

After being called upon to quarterback the Huskers in the second half of the Missouri game, Brownson engineered a 91-yard touchdown drive to break the 7-7 tie in the fourth quarter. The turning point in the game was a 41-yard run by Ordurna with Brownson plunging the final yard for the TD. After the defensive battle win,  Brownson earned his QB role and started against Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Colorado, setting a Nebraska record with a .653 passing percentage. 

In Brownson's first start of his junior season against Kansas he proved himself worthy of being a main quarterback threat.  After trailing before half, Brownson closed the gap and had the Jayhawks reeling before halftime. Brownson finished the game with passing of 10 for 15 for 183 yards, and ran for 59 yards. 

In Brownson's other big game of the year against Colorado, Brownson led the Huskers on two long TD passes. Brownson went 11 of 17 for 173 yards and a rushing touchdown. After being hit with an injury, Tagge finished the rest of the season starting. The Huskers went on to win a National Championship against LSU. 

1969 (Sophomore)

Brownson came to Nebraska as a top prospect, known for his quick elusive running and a great passer. Depsite fighting an injury, Brownson came on strong during the latter half of 1969 season after sharing QB duties with Jerry Tagge.  Brownson was ranked 8th in Big 8 passing, and 11th in total offense as a sophomore. On season, Brownson hit 63 of 121 passes for 772 yards and five TD's in his debut. Brownson also ran for 147 yards and five TD's. Earning an honorable mention in All-Big 8.

Four-sport letterman at Shedonah. Brownson's coach in high school was John Morgan.

Personal

Pre-Dentistry Major at Nebraska in the Arts and Sciences College. Parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. E.  Brownson.
