1972 (Senior)
Mike came to Nebraska without a scholarship and made his way into the starting line up and was the anchor for the ‘72 line. Beran helped lead the Huskers to the Big Eight’s top passing attack for the second consecutive season. Nebraska also ranked fourth in the conference in rushing offense, averaging 219.3 yards per game, and finished second in total offense at 440.3 yards per game. The Husker offensive line helped power an offense that led the Big Eight in scoring, averaging 41.9 points per game.
1971 (Junior)
Beran moved into the back up spot as a junior, playing behind Keith Wortman. The Huskers ground game produced 3,100 yards, good for third in the conference at 258.3 yards per game. Overall, the Husker offense averaged 437.7 yards and 39.1 points per game, ranking second in the Big Eight in both categories behind only Oklahoma. Nebraska finished with an undefeated record (13-0) and beat Alabama 38-6, in the National Championship game.
1970 (Sophomore)
Mike was a reserve for the 1970 Husker team. Beran helped the Huskers to 5,594 yards of total offense, including 252.5 rushing yards per game and 177.8 passing yards per game.
Ord High School (Ord, Nebraska)
Mike was All-Conference at Ord High School under Coach Dave Van Nordheim. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Beran. Mike received the first annual Nebraska Hall of Fame Scholarship and used it to pursue studies toward Medical College.
