1972 (Senior)
Joe was a three-year starter. He equalled a Husker record by breaking up eight passes, a record that has since been passed. Blahak finished the season with 38 tackles, 29 unassisted, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries and eight pass break ups. Joe's play earned him a spot in the 8th round of the NFL draft, being picked 183rd overall by the Houston Oilers. 

Nebraska had the best defense in the Big Eight, allowing just 219.2 yards per game. The Huskers ranked first in passing defense (106.5 ypg) and second in rushing defense (112.7 ypg).

1971 (Junior)
Joe was the third member of Nebraska's defensive backfield to gain All-Big Eight status. Joe was the fastest Husker, finishing with 57 tackles, 21 unassisted and two pass break ups. 

Joe helped the Huskers to a dominant defensive season. Ranking first in the Big Eight in rushing (85.9 ypg), passing (117.0), scoring (8.2 ppg) and total defense (202.9 ypg). Nebraska finished with an undefeated record (13-0) and beat Alabama 38-6, in the National Championship game.

1970 (Sophomore)
Blahak became a star in his sophomore season when he led the Huskers backs with 52 tackles. He also intercepted six passes, three against K-State’s Lynn Dickey which is a Nebraska record. Joe also holds the record for single game interception return yards, in that same game against Kansas State, Joe returned the three interceptions for 116 yards.

Joe was a football, basketball and track letterman under Coach Claire Stramel. Joe was named Athlete-of-the-Year and MVP in three seasons. Blahak was majoring in physical education and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Blahak. 

Blahak played in the NFL for seven seasons. Spending time with the Houston Oilers, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots. His best season was as a rookie for the Oilers when he started four games and intercepted two passes which he returned for 120 yards.
