1972 (Senior) 
Dave Mason was a two-year starter and a top backfield honors candidate. In Mason's final season as a Husker, he earned NU defensive player of the game vs Texas A&M and Kansas and Second Team All-Big Eight. He finished the season with 43 tackles, including 21 unassisted and two key interceptions. Mason was dominant on the field and in the classroom, earning Huskers '72 top scholar. 

1970/1971 (Junior) 
In the early spring of 1970, Mason was injured, switched to a monster position and then redshirted for the upcoming season. Mason got a shot as the starter at monster in 1971 and became a standout as he returned three pass interceptions for touchdowns to tie an NCAA record. Finishing his junior season, Mason earned Second Team All-Big Eight and led the team with six interceptions for 135 yards.

1969 (Sophomore) 
Mason lettered as a sophomore playing offensive end, logging speciality and back-up time. Mason was one of Green Bay's "Big Three" who lettered as first-year men for the Cornhuskers. 

1968 (Freshman) 
Mason spent his first season as a Husker on the freshman team. 

Before Nebraska (Green Bay West) 
Earned All State honors at Green Bay West. Before heading to Nebraska, Mason worked at a miniature golf course with Jerry Tagge, who will go on to be his teamate at Nebraska and win two National Championships. Mason's football coach in high school was Jerry Deffek.
