Bob Liggett earned All-Big Eight honors as a senior defensive tackle for Coach Bob Devaney's Cornhuskers in 1969. Liggett produced 80 tackles, including 37 solos and eight tackles (51 yards lost) for NU as a senior. He helped anchor a Blackshirt defense that led the Big Eight in both total defense and scoring defense. The Huskers finished the 1969 campaign with a 9-2 overall record that included a tie for the Big Eight title. NU earned a bid to the Sun Bowl, where they rolled to victory over Georgia.

Following his senior season, the native of Alquippa, Pa., competed in the Blue-Gray All-Star Game in Montgomery, Ala., and the Coaches All-America Game in Lubbock, Texas. He was chosen in the 15th round ofthe 1970 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and he spent the 1970 season with the Chiefs. He closed his professional career with the British Columbia Lions in the Canadian Football League in 1971.

A two-time letterman for the Huskers as a defensive tackle in 1968 and 1969, Liggett closed his career with 126 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss. He also had four fumble recoveries and five pass breakups.

As a senior, he recorded 73 tackles, including seven tackles for 45 yards lost, while recovering one fumble and breaking up three passes. He added seven more tackles, including one for a six-yard loss, in NU's Sun Bowl victory. As a junior in 1968, Liggett led the NU linemen with 53 total tackles, including six tackles for loss. He added three fumble recoveries and a pair of breakups.

Liggett did not see action for the Huskers in 1966 or 1967, serving as a reserve behind All-American Wayne Meylan and All-Big Eight selection Jim McCord. 

Liggett came to Nebraska after a standout prep career at Alquippa High School, where he earned a spot on the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League All-Star team for Coach Carl Aschman.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Liggett, Bob was an industrial arts education major at Nebraska.
