Ron Kirkland Season 1965

1966 (Senior)

Kirkland was the alternating left halfback for the Cornhuskers during the 1966 season. Kirkland had 29 carries for 112 yards and one touchdown. Kirkland also caught seven passes for 90 yards. Kirkland was a part of the Nebraska team that lost in the 1967 Sugar bowl against Bear Bryant’s Alabama, 7-34. 

1965 (Junior)

Kirkland was the starting left halfback during his junior year campaign. Kirkland had 79 carries for 522 yards and four touchdowns. Kirkland also caught two passes for 23 yards. Kirkland was in charge of punting duties for the Huskers with 29 attempts for 1012 yards and was blocked once. Kirkland helped the Huskers to a 10-1 overall record, a Big Eight title and a trip to the 1966 Orange Bowl against Bear Bryant's Alabama squad. NU fell 39-28 to the Crimson Tide, but finished the season ranked No. 3 in the final national polls. 

1964 (Sophomore)

Kirkland was an alternating halfback and even took on punting duties for the Huskers in his sophomore year. Kirkland recorded 24 carries for 115 yards and one touchdown, he also grabbed one pass for 18 yards. Ron also took care of the punting side of things as well, punting 43 times for 1452 yards and was blocked once.

1963 (Freshman)

Kirkland spent most of his time on the frosh team splitting reps at halfback with the loaded freshman class. Still was productive whenever he was given a chance to run. He recorded three touchdowns on the season.
