Career
A three-year letterman as an end for the Huskers in 1960, 1961 and 1962, Jim Huge claimed CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 1962 and was Nebraska's first-ever three-time academic all-conference selection.
As a senior in 1962, the 6-1, 185, right end from Holdrege, Neb., caught 11 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown, helping the Huskers to 1 9-2 record and a victory in the Gotham Bowl in Hall of Fame Coach Bob Devaney's first season at Nebraska. Huge's touchdown catch came with a 44-yard reception from Dennis Claridge in a 36-22 win over Iowa State. He added a catch on a two-point conversion against the Cyclones.
As a junior in 1961, Huge caught eight passes for 111 yards and one touchdown. The Huskers finished with a 3-6-1 record in Coach Bill Jennings' final season in Lincoln. Huge was injured for a portion of his sophomore season in 1960.
He finished his NU football career with 19 receptions for 319 yards and two touchdowns, while scoring 14 career points.
An education major, Huge owned the top grade-point average on Nebraska's football team in 1962, and he was also a member of the Innocent's Society on the NU campus.
Huge was also a guard for the Nebraska men's basketball team. He lettered for Coach Jerry Bush's squad in 1961 and 1963.
