One of Nebraska's first professional players in the National Football League, Merle Zuver was a three-year letterman for the Cornhuskers in 1926, 1927 and 1928.
Following his playing career as a guard for the Huskers, he appeared in eight games as a guard/center for the Green Bay Packers during the 1930 season. The native of Adams, Neb., was one of the first 25 Huskers to earn a spot in the professional ranks.
As a senior, Zuver was a member of Coach Ernest E. Bearg's Nebraska squad that captured the Huskers' first-ever Big Six Conference title. NU rolled to a 7-1 overall record with its only loss coming at Army. NU posted a perfect 5-0 conference mark in its first season in the Bix Six.
Nebraska posted 6-2 records under Bearg in both 1926 and 1927 to produce runner-up finishes in the Missouri Valley Conference.
