Vic Halligan owns the distinction of being Nebraska's first All-American, capturing the honor as a tackle in 1914. The North Platte, Neb., native earned three letters for the Cornhuskers in 1912, 1913 and 1914.

He was a leader on a Cornhusker team during one of the most successful stretches in school history. After helping Nebraska to a 7-1-0 record with its only loss coming at a powerful Minnesota squad in 1912, Halligan was the driving forcing behind Nebraska's 8-0 record under legendary head coach Ewald O. "Jumbo" Stiehm in 1913.

Nebraska's 7-0 win over the Golden Gophers on Homecoming in Lincoln was NU's first victory over mighty Minnesota since 1902. The Huskers were Missouri Valley Conference co-champions in 1913.

Halligan was the captain of Nebraska's 1914 team that claimed a third straight conference title. Halligan led the Huskers to a 7-0-1 record, capping a 21-game unbeaten streak with a 16-7 win at Iowa on Nov. 21 in his last collegiate game.

Nebraska's first three-time all-conference selection, Halligan played back in his first two seasons with the Huskers before playing alongside fellow All-American and College and Pro Football Hall of Famer Guy Chamberlin in 1914. Chamberlin split time as a halfback and end in 1914. Halligan and Chamberlin also shared the spotlight with three-time all-conference selections Dick Rutherford (1913-14-15) and H.H. Corey (1914-15-16).

For his career accomplishments, Halligan earned induction into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 1973.
