Zaven Yaralian Season 1974

1973 (Senior)
Zaven was a starter and standout defender in the Husker pass defense that led the nation, only allowing 39.9 yards per game. As a senior Yaralian had 26 total tackles, 17 unassisted and nine assisted. He recovered one fumble, intercepted one pass and broke up nine others for a new Nebraska record that has since been passed. Nebraska ranked second in total defense at 245.8 yards per game, behind only Oklahoma.

1972 (Junior)
Zaven started at left cornerback when All-Big Eight Joe Blahak moved to safety against wishbone offenses. As a junior, he logged 22 tackles, 16 unassisted and broke up one pass. 

Nebraska had the best defense in the Big Eight, allowing just 219.2 yards per game. The Huskers ranked first in passing defense (106.5 ypg) and second in rushing defense (112.7 ypg).

El Camino Junior College (Alondra Park, California)
Zaven transferred to Nebraska from El Camino Junior College where he earned All-American Honors under Coach Ken Swearingen. 

Inglewood High School (Inglewood, California)
Zaven played high school ball under Coach Dave Makayu at Inglewood High School. He was majoring in physical education and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Yaralian.
