2025 (Redshirt Freshman)
Williams Nwaneri has played in every game this season with one start, totaling 10 tackles, a half tackle for loss, one pass breakup and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Following the Michigan game, Nwaneri ranked second nationally in fumble recoveries.

Nwaneri had a career-high six tackles against Cincinnit with a half tackle for loss and his first career pass breakup. He had one solo tackle against Akron. Nwaneri had a 29-yard fumble return for a touchdown against Houston Christian. He started the first game of his career against No. 21 Michigan and finished with three tackles and one quarterback hurry.

Before Nebraska (Lee’s Summit North HS/Missouri)
Nwaneri spent one season at Missouri, utilizing his redshirt season in 2024. Nwaneri played in four games as a true freshman with the Tigers, totaling two tackles with 1.0 tackle for loss and 1.0 sack.

Before going to Missouri, Nwaneri was one of the top recruits in the nation at Lee’s Summit North High School, where he played for Jamar Mozee who is now on the Nebraska coaching staff. Nwaneri was a three-year starter for the Broncos, and he recorded 149 tackles, 25 TFLs and 23 sacks during his career. His play helped Lee’s Summit North to a pair of appearances in the state semifinals and one championship game. A two-time first-team all-state selection, Nwaneri was selected as a 2024 Under Armour High School All-American.

Nwaneri was a consensus five-star recruit and was a unanimous selection as the top player in Missouri. He was regarded as one of the top 25 overall prospects and one of the top five edge rushers in the country by all major recruiting services. Nwaneri was ranked as the No. 6 player in the country by 247Sports, while Rivals regarded Nwaneri as the nation’s No. 8 recruit and the No. 1 edge rusher in the country. In the On3 Industry Ranking – a composite ranking of the major recruiting services – Nwaneri was the No. 1 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 7 overall recruit.

Williams is the son of Don and Chichi Nwaneri. Williams has not declared a major.
