William Wayne (Cotto) Comstock earned three letters at Nebraska in 1960, 1961 and 1962. An all-stater from Scottsbluff High School, Comstock was known for his toughness and determination as a Husker.

As a senior during Coach Bob Devaney's first season at Nebraska in 1962, Comstock hauled in four catches for 59 yards with one touchdown, which came on an 11-yard pass from Dennis Claridge in NU's 31-6 win at Colorado on Oct. 27. Comstock helped the Huskers to a 9-2 record, including a win over Miami in the Gotham Bowl. It was during that season, on Nov. 3 in the Homecoming game against Missouri, that Nebraska's NCAA record sellout streak began.

In his lone season as a fullback, Comstock scored the first touchdown of Nebraska's 1961 season against North Dakota. For the season, Comstock rushed 15 times for 59 yards as a junior in Coach Bill Jennings' final campaign. The Huskers finished with a 3-6-1 record in 1961, after posting a 4-6-0 mark in 1960.

As a right end in 1960, Comstock pulled in two catches for 21 yards while spending more than 260 minutes on the field for the Huskers on the year.

Bill Comstock's older brother, Don, also lettered for the Huskers as a halfback in 1954.

Bill Comstock passed away on April 4, 2008, in Phoenix, Ariz., at the age of 67.
