Travis Turner Season 1985

Honors and Awards

• Big Eight offensive player-of-the-week (vs. Colorado, 1984)

1985 (Senior)
Turner appeared in all 11 games as a senior, splitting time with sophomore Clayton. Turner completed 21 passes for 418 yards and threw just three interceptions along with three touchdowns. Travis rushed 24 times for 56 yards to go with one touchdown, which came in the game against Oregon to help Nebraska to a blowout win 63-0. Turner had a career long pass play of 82 yards to Von Sheppard to help Nebraska to a 56-6 win. 

1984 (Junior)
Turner took over as the starter the last half of the regular season when a nagging shoulder injury contributed to a three interception game by Sundberg. Turner then started the last six Big Eight games, then gave way to Sundberg in the Sugar Bowl after Sundberg had a fine season finale vs. Oklahoma. At the end of the season Turner finished with a 5-1 record as a starter, throwing for 541 yards, three interceptions and four touchdowns. Turner threw a 64 yard touchdown pass to Jason Gamble, sealing a 17-3 win over Oklahoma State. He was also a talented runner when he ran for 190 yards and ten touchdowns as a junior. 

Turner earned Big Eight offensive player-of-the-week against Colorado when he ran for two touchdowns and passed to Brian Hiemer for another, all in the fourth quarter to bring the Huskers back from a 7-3 deficit to a 24-7 win at Boulder. Turner was the first quarterback to lead the Huskers in scoring (60) since Dennis Claridge in 1962. 

1983 (Sophomore)
Turner did not see much action as a sophomore and did not earn a varsity letter. Despite this he still ran for 19 yards during the season. 

1982 (Redshirt)
Turner redshirted his second season as a Husker. 

1981 (Freshman)
Turner did not play with the freshman team and spent the entire year with the varsity, Turner did not see any playing time on the varsity but did make the travel squad for the Oklahoma game and the Orange Bowl. 

Scottsbluff High School
Turner was a three year letterman and honorable-mention all-state as a quarterback and a punter for Coach Brad Jenkins. He also lettered once in each basketball and track. 

Personal
Turner was a journalism major, and is the son of Wayne and Virginia Turner, born in Denver, Colorado.
