1990 (Senior)
A two-year starter at left tackle on Nebraska’s offensive line, Tom Punt earned first-team All-Big Eight honors from the AP and UPI as a senior in 1990. He started 10 of NU’s 11 regular-season games, missing only the contest with Missouri because of the flu. He also started the 1991 Florida Citrus Bowl against Georgia Tech. Punt helped Nebraska lead the Big Eight and rank second nationally in rushing (340.0 ypg), while also leading the conference in scoring (37.5 ppg) and total offense (444.4 ypg).
A three-year letterwinner, Punt played in 29 regular-season with 22 starts during his career and helped the Big Red to back-to-back NCAA rushing titles in 1988 and 1989.
1989 (Junior)
A full-time starter at left tackle, Punt helped power Nebraska to its sixth NCAA rushing title of the 1980s, finishing with 375.3 yards per game. The Big Red also ranked second nationally in scoring offense (44.7 ppg) and third in total offense (513.3 ypg). He started all 11 of NU’s games in the regular season, but did not start against Florida State in the 1990 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl.
1988 (Sophomore)
Punt played in eight of Nebraska’s 12 regular-season games behind starter Bob Sledge at left tackle for the Big Eight champion Huskers. Punt got his first career start against UNLV when Sledge battled a shoulder injury. Punt helped the Huskers capture the NCAA rushing title with 382.3 yards per game.
1987 (Redshirt)
Punt redshirted in his second season at Nebraska.
1986 (Freshman)
Punt started at left tackle for Coach Scott Downing’s 4-1 Husker freshman team.
Sioux Center High School
A first-team All-Northwest Iowa and second-team all-state selection, Punt was an honorable-mention high school All-American as a senior for Coach Jim Johnson at Sioux Center High School. He was a three-year letterman playing both offense and defense. He led Sioux Center with 113 tackles as a senior to finish with 207 in his high school career. He played in the Iowa Shrine Game, and he also attended Iowa Boys State.
Personal
The son of Paul and Sharon Punt, Tom has one brother and one sister. He was born in Vermillion, S.D. He was a business administration major at Nebraska.
