1981 (Senior)
Tom started at guard for the Huskers in 1981 after making the switch from offensive tackle in the spring. Tom's senior year performance earned him All-Big Eight honorable mention and a place in the NFL draft. Tom's performance in the weight room earned him a spot in the finals for Nebraska lifter-of-the-year. Carlstrom played an important role in the Huskers offense which finished second in the nation in rushing at 330.5 yards per game and sixth in total offense at 437.5 yards per game. The Huskers finished the season with a 9-3 record and an appearance in the National-Championship Orange Bowl against Miami. 

1980 (Junior)
Tom played behind starter Randy Theiss as a junior but moved into the starting job when he switched to guard. Tom played 102 minutes as a junior. Nebraska finished the season with a Sun Bowl win against Mississippi State (31-17). 

1979 (Sophomore)
Carlstrom was a sophomore reserve offensive tackle. Nebraska finished the season with a 10-2 record and an appearance in the Cotton Bowl against Houston.

1978 (Redshirt)
Tom redshirted his second season at Nebraska. 

1977 (Freshman)
Tom started at offensive tackle for the Nebraska freshman team. 

Polk High School (Neb.)
Under Coach Rich Owens, he was a Class D All State performer at offensive tackle and defensive end. He was a social science major in Teachers College and is the son of Mrs. Frances Carlstrom.
