1987 (Junior)
Putnam was a two year letter winner in the 1986 and 1987 season. Nebraska's No. three middle guard playing behind Lawrence Pete and Mike Murray. Putman helped Nebraska to the Big Eight title with an unbeaten (7-0) conference regular season on its way to an 11-2 overall record. The Blackshirts finished sixth nationally in pass defense (134.8 ypg) and seventh in total defense (262.8 ypg).
1986 (Sophomore)
Even though Putnam was a reserve middle guard, behind All-American Danny Noonan and Lawrance Pete, He still saw action in five games and earned his first letter. During the season Putnam made two unassisted tackles.
1985 (Redshirt)
Putnam redshirted his second season at Nebraska.
1984 (Freshman)
Putnam was the alternate middle guard behind Lawrance Pete on the freshman team. He recorded six total tackles with three unassisted. Putnam helped the Nebraska team to a 4-1 record.
O’Neill High School
Putnam was an All-State defensive tackle for coach Mark Neigh at O’Neill High school where he lettered in wrestling and finished fifth at the class B state Track & Field Meet.

Sean was a physical science education major. He is the son of Dan Putnam, He was born in O’Neill Nebraska.
