1981 (Senior)
Rodney had his best games of the year against Kansas and Oklahoma. Against Kansas he returned an interception 31 yards to set up the go-ahead touchdown. Against Oklahoma, he recovered a pair of fumbles. Lewis finished second in the secondary in tackles with 39, trailing only Krejci. Lewis also finished with two tackles for a loss of two yards and three pass break ups. The Huskers finished the season with a 9-3 record and earned a berth in the national championship Orange Bowl against Miami. Lewis was also named to the All-American strength team.
1980 (Junior)
Lewis shared the No. 1 right cornerback duties with senior Andy Means. Lewis finished with 29 tackles, including 23 unassisted, two fumble recoveries, one pass interception and five others broken up. Rodney recorded five solo tackles and one pass breakup against Florida State. Against Colorado, he finished with four tackles, one interception, and one pass breakup. He added two tackles and two pass breakups against Missouri. Nebraska finished the season with a Sun Bowl win against Mississippi State (31-17).
Rodney was also a fine track athlete at Nebraska, he qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in 1980 in the 300-yard dash. He ran a 30.81 seconds in the 300 yard dash, the fastest time in NU history at the time. He was also a member of Nebraska’s NCAA qualifying mile relay team that ran a 3:12.5 and placed second in the Big Eight. In Outdoor he had a team best 100-meter time (10.53) and placed fifth in the Big Eight 100 meter dash.
1979 (Sophomore)
Lewis earned his first varsity letter as a sophomore reserve. He finished with one tackle and broke up one pass. Nebraska finished the season with a 10-2 record and an appearance in the Cotton Bowl against Houston.
1978 (Redshirt)
Rodney redshirted his second season at Nebraska.
1977 (Freshman)
Lewis was a walkon and started for the 1977 freshman team.
Central High School (Minneapolis, Minn.)
Lewis played safety, linebacker, cornerback and full back under Coach Rich Robinson where he earned All-State and All-City honors. He was a high school, Nebraska and New Orleans Saints teammate of Russle Gray.
Personal
Rodney was majoring in criminal justice and is the son of Rosalind Lewis. Lewis played three years in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints where he saw action in 27 games, with two starts, one interception and four tackles.
