1984 (Senior)
Yates battled nagging injuries all through his senior season. Enter fall camp as the No.2 split end behind Scott Kimball, but a recurrent pulled hamstring and the development of underclassman limited his playing time.

Rod would receive a reserve letterman on this year's Big Eight championship team.

Yates was an unlettered player on the team and would not have a varsity appearance.

Son of Arthur Yates, Rod Yates was born on June 2, 1962, in Sioux City, Iowa. Yates is a Business Administration major. Yates was an All-city, all-conference, All-Northwest Iowa, all-state split end for Coach Steve Gunther at Sioux City North High School. Rod Yates is now the owner of Nebraska Crossing in Gretna,Neb.
