1986 (Senior)
Schnitzler appeared in 10 of Nebraska's 11 games during his senior season, recording eight receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown. He helped lead the Huskers to the 1987 USF&G Sugar Bowl, where Nebraska defeated LSU, 30-15. The Huskers finished the season ranked second nationally in rushing offense, averaging 305.5 yards per game, and third in scoring at 37.8 points per contest.

1985 (Junior)
Schnitzler emerged as Nebraska's leading receiver during his junior season, catching 16 passes for 382 yards and two touchdowns. The Huskers' fastest split end, he used his 4.53-second 40-yard dash speed to average 23.9 yards per reception, the second-highest mark in the Big Eight. He also averaged 12.9 yards per punt return, ranking seventh nationally.

Schnitzler posted career highs with four receptions for 119 yards in Nebraska's 34-24 victory over Oklahoma State, highlighted by a 38-yard touchdown catch from McCathorn Clayton. He also caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Travis Turner against Illinois. In that game, his younger brother, Craig, Nebraska's junior placekicker, converted seven extra points and a field goal, making them the first brothers in Nebraska history to score in the same game.

1984 (Sophomore)
Schnitzler caught six passes for 144 yards during his sophomore season. Four of those receptions, totaling 83 yards, came in the regular-season finale against Oklahoma, including a 38-yard catch that carried to the Sooners' two-yard line and set up Nebraska's only touchdown in a 17-7 loss.

1983 (Redshirt)
Schnitzler redshirted his second season at Nebraska.

1982 (Freshman)
A walk-on, Schnitzler played wingback for Nebraska's undefeated 5-0 freshman team. He shared the team lead with four receptions for 33 yards and added six rushing attempts for 79 yards and one touchdown.

Battle Creek High School
Schnitzler was an all-state football player at Battle Creek High School, where he played for his father. He earned four varsity letters each in football, basketball, and track.

Personal
Schnitzler is the son of Robert and Lorraine Schnitzler. He and his brother, Craig, have four sisters. He was born in July 1963 in Norfolk, Nebraska.
