1976 (Senior)
Randy handled the punting duties for Nebraska for three seasons (1974-1976). He punted 56 times for a 40.8 yard average. Through three seasons (165 punts) Lessman never had a punt blocked. Randy earned Academic All-Big Eight as a senior. Randy helped Nebraska finish the season with a 9-3-1 record and an Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl win over Texas Tech, 27-24.
Lessman finished his career with 165 punts for 6,545 yards for an average of 39.7 yards per punt.
1975 (Junior)
Randy has a career average of 39.1 yards a kick and has never had one blocked. His longest boot in ‘75 was 60-yards, during Nebraska 1-0-7 win over LSU. Randy punted 65 times as a junior for 2,591 yards for an average of 39.8 yards per punt. The Huskers finished the season with a 10-2 record and a Fiesta Bowl appearance against Arizona State.
1974 (Sophomore)
Randy won the starting punter job as a sophomore. He punted 44 times for 1,668 yards and an average of 37.9 yards per punt. He had a career long punt of 68 yards against Oklahoma State. Nebraska finished the season with a 9-3 record and a Sugar Bowl win against Florida (13-10).
1973 (Redshirt)
Randy redshirted his second season as a Husker.
1972 (Freshman)
Randy punted with the 1972 Husker freshman team.
Sioux City East High School (Sioux City, Iowa)
Randy earned All-American honors while playing under Coach Walt Fiegle. He was majoring in business and is the son of Harlan and Helen Lessman.
