1973 (Senior)
Ralph combined with Maury Damkroger to give the Huskers a solid one-two punch at fullback during the 1973 season. He rushed for 259 yards on 45 carries, averaging 5.3 average yards per carry.
Ralph was a key contributor to why the Huskers had the fourth best rushing attack (225.4 ypg) in the Big Eight during the ‘73 season. Powell helped the Huskers to a 9-2-1 record and a 19-3 Cotton Bowl win over Texas.
1972 (Junior)
Powell carried the ball 21 times for 176 yards and a whopping 8.3 average as the No. 3 fullback. He showed his breakaway speed when he galloped for 63-yards, bringing the ball to the Army two-yard line.
Powell was a key reason why Nebraska ranked fourth in the conference in rushing offense, averaging 219.3 yards per game, and finished second in total offense at 440.3 yards per game.
Northwestern High School (Detroit, Michigan)
Powell was named Athlete-of-the-Year, All-City and All-State at Detroit's Northwestern High School. He played football under Coach Roy Allen while also starring in track and basketball. Ralph was majoring in industrial arts in Teachers College.
