P.J. Mangieri Season 2012

Honors & Awards

P.J. Mangieri took over the long snapping duties for Nebraska in his first game as a Husker in 2009, and handled the role for four consecutive seasons. Mangieri was NU's long snapper in 55 consecutive games, capping his career in the Capital One Bowl against Georgia.

The former walk-on played a key role in the success of Brett Maher and Alex Henery, who handled kicking and punting chores during Mangieri's career. Henery earned all-America honors, while Maher was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten choice as a kicker. Overall, NU kickers made 79-of-95 field goals with Mangieri handling the snapping duties.

2012 (Senior)
Mangieri helped Maher connect on 20-of-27 field goals, including four games with three field goals and three field goals of 50 yards or more. NU was also perfect on 59 PAT attempts.

2011 (Junior)
Mangieri helped Brett Maher to All-Big Ten seasons as both a kicker and punter. Maher made 19-of-23 field goals, including 7-10 from beyond 40 yards, and Maher also connected on 43-of-44 PAT attempts. Mangieri's snapping also helped Nebraska rank 27th nationally in net punting. He contributed two tackles on punt coverage.

2010 (Sophomore)
Mangieri served an important support role while Henery put together an All-America season. The Huskers were 54-of-54 on extra points, 18-of-19 on field goals and ranked 35th nationally in net punting. He also made one tackle on punt coverage.

2009 (Freshman)
Mangieri was one of six true freshmen to see playing time in 2009 and the only walk-on newcomer to see the playing field. Mangieri was the long snapper for punts, PATs and field goal attempts. Mangieri helped starting punter/place-kicker Alex Henery connect on 24 of his 28 field goal attempts, while Henery also averaged 41.4 yards per punt.

Before Nebraska (Dunlap HS)
Mangieri played offense and defensive line for Coach Jeff Alderman. Mangieri recorded 45 tackles and seven sacks in 2008 and was an All-Mid Illini Conference first-team selection as an offensive tackle. He was also named to the Peoria Journal Star's All-Area first team last fall. Mangieri also drew interest from Purdue as a walk-on prospect. 

Personal
The son of Peter and Theresa Mangieri, P.J. was born on May 16, 1991. He earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2012 as a business administration major. He was named to the 2009 Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall Academic Honor Roll and the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2011 and 2012 and the spring of 2013. He has volunteered his time with hospital visits and the Husker Hotline.
