Smith joined the Nebraska program as a walk-on in 2016, and hopes to compete for playing time at receiver this fall.

Smith redshirted in his first season and worked on the scout team offense.

Before Nebraska (Blue Springs High School)
Smith came to Lincoln from Blue Springs High School, one of the top prep programs in Missouri and the same school that produced current Husker defensive linemen Carlos and Khalil Davis. Smtih played wide receiver for the Wildcats and spent one year on varsity.

Personal
Ne'land is a business administration major at Nebraska. He is the son of Neil and Sheri Smith and was born on Aug. 18, 1997. His father Neil was an All-American defensive lineman for the Huskers from 1984-87. Neil Smith was chosen as the second overall draft pick in the 1988 draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and was a two-time Super Bowl Champion with the Denver Broncos (1998, 1999).
