Two-Time Honorable-Mention All-Big Eight (Coaches, 1988, 1989)
1989 (Senior)
Morgan Gregory was one of Nebraska’s top receiving targets, hauling in 19 receptions for 282 yards while starting all 11 regular-season games as a senior in 1989. He averaged 14.8 yards per reception while pulling in three touchdown grabs (Missouri, Colorado, Oklahoma). His touchdown against OU was a career-long 38 yards from Gerry Gdowski late in the third quarter to seal a 42-25 Husker win. Gregory was also a weapon for the Big Red on punt returns for the third straight season, returning six punts for 84 yards (14.0 ypr), including a season-long 45-yarder. He made his final start as a Husker in the 1990 Fiesta Bowl, registering four catches for 67 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown pass from Gerry Gdowski on Nebraska’s opening drive to give the Huskers a 7-0 lead, before Florida State rallied for 41-17 win.
In his three seasons as a Husker letterman, Gregory totaled 45 receptions for 579 yards (12.9 ypg) and five touchdowns. He also amassed 16 punt returns for 233 yards (14.6 ypr), including a career-long 64-yard touchdown.
1988 (Junior)
Gregory registered a career-high 20 receptions for 239 yards (12.0 ypc) and two touchdowns (UCLA, Arizona State) to help Nebraska win the Big Eight title and earn a trip to the 1989 Orange Bowl. He also returned a career-high seven punts for a career-best 118 yards, including a career-long 64-yard touchdown return to cap Nebraska’s 28-0 first quarter in a 63-10 win over Kansas (Oct. 8). Gregory also recorded three unassisted tackles on the year and added one rushing attempt for one yard. He started nine games and the Orange Bowl. His only non-starts came when the Big Red opened in two tight end sets, as Monte Kratzenstein earned three starts (UCLA, Missouri, Iowa State).
1987 (Sophomore)
Gregory played in 11 games to see his first varsity action as an alternate behind Rod Smith. He grabbed six receptions for 58 yards (9.7 ypc), while adding three punt returns for 31 yards. In the 1988 Fiesta Bowl, Gregory added three receptions for 49 yards as a starter with Smith sidelined by injury. Gregory earned his first regular-season start in a win over Kansas State (Oct. 24), replacing an injured Smith and catching four passes for 39 yards.
1986 (Freshman)
Gregory led the 4-1 Husker freshman team with 16 catches for 336 yards and one touchdown. He accumulated 520 all-purpose yards, including nine receptions for 162 yards against the Pittsburg State junior varsity.
Denver Manual High School
Gregory was an all-state selection on both offense and defense as a senior in 1985, catching 29 passes for 950 yards and three touchdowns. He was also an all-conference basketball player who turned down a scholarship on the hardwood from New Mexico to play football at Nebraska.
Personal
The son of Ben and Bonnie Gregory, Morgan was born in Lincoln. Ben Gregory was a Husker co-captain as a senior in 1967. Ben rushed for 1,062 yards and caught 36 passes for 456 yards in his three-year Nebraska career. The Gregorys are cousins of former Nebraska receivers coach Gene Huey and former Nebraska and NBA basketball star Stuart Lantz.
