1981 (Senior)
Mike was the backup center to All-American Dave Rmington and Brad Johnson. McElroy handled all the deep snapping chores for the Huskers. He played an important role in the Huskers offense which finished second in the nation in rushing at 330.5 yards per game and sixth in total offense at 437.5 yards per game. The Huskers finished the season with a 9-3 record and an appearance in the National-Championship Orange Bowl against Miami.
1980 (Junior)
Mike saw some action as a reserve center. Nebraska finished the season with a Sun Bowl win against Mississippi State (31-17).
1979 (Sophomore)
McElroy didn't see much playing time as a sophomore. Nebraska finished the season with a 10-2 record and an appearance in the Cotton Bowl against Houston.
1978 (Redshirt)
Mike redshirted his second season at Nebraska.
1977 (Freshman)
Mike started at center for the Husker freshman team.
Grand Island High School
McElroy lettered twice as a center at Grand Island High School under Ken Fischer, brother of Clete Fischer, NU offensive line coach. Mike was an agronomy major and is the son of Dr. and Mrs. John McElroy.
