2010 Outlook
Junior Mike Hays has played a prominent role on Nebraska's special teams units each of the past two seasons. The Papillion, Neb., native was a member of the Huskers' punt and kickoff return teams in 2009 and should be a special teams contributor again this fall. The 6-1, 235-pound Hays also served as the Huskers' No. 2 fullback last fall, and will look to push for playing time at that spot this season.
2009 (Sophomore)
Hays saw limited action at fullback, but played in all 14 games on special teams. He finished with five tackles, including two unassisted stops. He had two tackles each at Missouri and at Baylor.
2008 (Redshirt Freshman)
Hays played in all 13 games on kickoff, kickoff return and punt units in 2008. He had three tackles on special teams. He made unassisted tackles against Kansas and Colorado and had an assist vs. San Jose State.
2007 (Redshirt)
A walk-on, Hays redshirted and worked as fullback and linebacker on the scout team.
Before Nebraska (Papillion-LaVista HS)
Hays only played organized football for two years at Class A Papillion-LaVista High School, but he quickly made an impact during his prep career. Hays played linebacker and wide receiver and earned honorable-mention all-state, first-team all-district and second-team all-metro honors as a senior.
Hays was a four-sport athlete for the Monarchs. As a forward for the basketball team he led the squad to the state playoffs, while helping the baseball team to the district championships as a centerfielder and pitcher. Hays also competed in the sprints for the track and field team. Hays had several Division II scholarship offers, before choosing the Huskers.

Hays is the son of Bill and Anita Hays and was born on Aug. 22, 1989. He is majoring in sociology. Hays was a member of the 2010 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team. He has been a part of numerous hospital and elementary school visits and also took part in World War II Veteran's Night.
