  • 1974 7th Round NFL Draft (New England Patriots, 178th Overall)

1973 (Senior)
Damkroger was called by many the “Best blocking back in the nation”, he rushed for 265 yards in 63 attempts. His ability to carry the ball and block earned him a spot in the 1974 NFL Draft, being picked in the seventh round by the New England Patriots (178th Overall). Nebraska finished the season strong, ending with a 9-2-1 record and a 19-3 Cotton Bowl win over Texas.

1972 (Junior)
Maury was the back up fullback to Bills Olds. Despite this he still played the second most of any Husker in 1972. He gained 229 yards and a touchdown while catching nine passes for 60 yards but is better known as an outstanding blocking fullback- possibly the best in the country. The Huskers finished the season with a 9-2-1 record and a 40-6 Orange Bowl win over Notre Dame. 

Maury was a dual sport athlete, he started catcher for the 1972 Husker baseball team. 

1971 (Sophomore)
Maury earned his first varsity letter when he rushed 36 times for 210 yards. He also caught seven passes for 36 yards and a touchdown. Nebraska finished the 1971 season undefeated (13-0) and as National Champions, beating Alabama in the Orange Bowl, 38-6.

1970 (Freshman)
Maury gained 133 yards while playing fullback for the freshman Husker team. 

Northeast High School (Lincoln, Nebraska)
Damkroger was an outstanding all around athlete, he earned All-State honors in football, basketball and baseball. He earned Athlete-of-the-Year honors. Maury played his high school football under Coach Claire Boroff and Art Bauer. Maury is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Damkroger, Ralph was a former Cornhusker end star in the late 1940’s.
