Career
Matt Shaw earned a spot in Nebraska football history by capturing first-team Academic All-America honors as a senior tight while helping Nebraska to the 1994 national championship. He was also Nebraska football's Tom Novak Award winner in 1994.

1994 (Senior)
A starting tight end for the Big Red as a senior, sharing time in a three-man starting rotation that included Mark Gilman and Eric Alford. Although he never caught a pass as a Husker, Shaw started all but three games (UCLA, Pacific, Oklahoma) for a Nebraska team that won its third consecutive Big Eight Conference title on its way to the 1994 national championship. A dominant blocker from the tight end spot, Shaw helped Nebraska claim the NCAA rushing title (340.0 ypg), while ranking fifth in total offense (477.8 ypg) and sixth in scoring offense (36.3 ppg).

1993 (Junior)
Shaw was a second-team tight end behind Gerald Armstrong and Trumane Bell in 1993. Shaw played every game including the 1994 Orange Bowl. He made his first career start against Kansas State, when Armstrong was out with a hamstring injury and the Huskers opened in a double-tight end set. Shaw was named to the 1993 Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight Honor Roll. The Huskers earned their second straight Big Eight title.

1992 (Sophomore)
Shaw served as a backup tight end in 1992. He played in eight games and had one solo tackle on special teams to earn his first letter. He did not have a reception.

1991 (Redshirt)
Shaw redshirted in his second season at Nebraska in 1991.

1990 (Freshman)
A walk-on, Shaw caught three passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns as a tight end for the Husker junior varsity team.

Before Nebraska (Lincoln Northeast High School)
Shaw teamed with Husker defensive tackle David Noonan for Coach Bruce Reed at Lincoln Northeast. Shaw earned two letters in football as a safety, wide receiver and tight end for the Rockets. He also earned two letters in basketball and one in baseball. He was a member of the Class A state runner-up team for the Rockets in 1990, making a three-quarter court shot in the state title game.
