- Big Eight player-of-the-week (Week 11)
1981 (Senior)
Mark finished the season by leading the Huskers to their first win over Oklahoma since 1971 when he completed 11 of 16 passes for 148 yards and one touchdown against the Sooners, his efforts earned him Big Eight player-of-the-week. Along with Jimmy Williams, Mauer was selected by his teammates as a co-captain. He led the Big Eight in passing with an NCAA rating of 115.4. Mark completed 34 passes for 428 yards and five touchdowns as a senior. Mark also played baseball for the Huskers nationally ranked baseball team where he hit .388. Mauer played an important role in the Huskers' offense, which finished sixth nationally in total offense at 437.5 yards per game. The Huskers finished the season with a 9-3 record and earned a berth in the national championship Orange Bowl against Miami.
1980 (Junior)
As junior alternate letterman to senior Jeff Quinn, he completed 5 of 11 passes for 64 yards and rushed 15 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns. Nebraska finished the season with a Sun Bowl win against Mississippi State (31-17).
1979 (Sophomore)
Mark earned his first varsity letter as a reserve quarterback. He finished the season with one completion for 13 yards and a touchdown, he rushed ten times for 17 yards. Nebraska finished the season with a 10-2 record and an appearance in the Cotton Bowl against Houston.
1978 (Redshirt)
Mark redshirted as a sophomore when we missed the year with a hip injury.
1977 (Freshman)
Mark was the co-starting quarterback for the 1977 freshman team.
St. Paul Harding
As a quarterback and linebacker under his father, Coach Kenneth Mauer, Mark was a two year All State, All Conference, All City and All Metro performer. He also earned those same honors for one year in basketball and for two seasons in baseball. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins as a catcher out of high school
Personal
Mark was majoring in physical education and is the son of Kenneth and Thelma Mauer. Mark went on to be a Graduate Assistant at Nebraska from 1982-1983, then made short coaching stunts as Ball State (QB/WR, 1984-1986), Wisconsin (WR, 1987-1989), North Dakota State (AHC/OC, 1996-1999), New Mexico State (WR, 2001-2003), and Condordia, MN (HC, 2004-2010), Hill-Murray High School, MN (HC).
