Mark Heydorff Season 1974

1974 (Senior)
Mark teamed with George Kyros to make the safety position a strong one for the Huskers. Mark finished the season with 31 tackles, 15 unassisted, a fumble recovery and an interception. The interception came in the Sugar Bowl against Florida to ice the game, 13-10. 

Heydorff helped the Huskers to a dominant defensive season. They finished second in the Big Eight in rushing defense (165.1 ypg), passing defense (98.4 ypg), and scoring defense (11.1 ppg). Nebraska finished the season with a 9-3 record.

1973 (Junior)
Heydorff started at monster during the latter part of his junior season. He finished the season with 39 tackles, 14 unassisted and four for a loss of 20 yards. Mark also had a career high two interceptions and a pass break up. 

Mark was a key reason the Huskers pass defense was the best in the Big Eight, allowing just 28.2% of opponents passes to be completed for only 39.9 yards per game. Nebraska ranked second in total defense (245.8 ypg), trailing only Oklahoma. Mark helped the Huskers to a 9-2-1 record and a 19-3 Cotton Bowl win over Texas.

1972 (Sophomore)
Mark was a member of the varsity squad but did not see any playing time.  The Huskers finished with a 9-2-1 record and a dominating 40-6 win over Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl.

1971 (Glendale Junior College)
Mark played his first season of college football at Glendale Junior College in Glendale, California. 

St. Francis High School (La Crescenta, Calif.)
Mark earned All-League honors in high school. He was majoring in physical education and is the son of Joseph and Catherine Heydorff.
