1988 (Senior)
Mark Antonietti was a contributor on Nebraska’s offensive line as a senior for the Big Eight champion Huskers in 1988. The 6-2, 265-pound guard out of the Chicago area earned his second varsity letter. He played behind starting left guard Andy Keeler and helped Nebraska claim the NCAA rushing title (382.3 ypg), while ranking sixth nationally in scoring (39.5 ppg) and seventh in total offense (477.9 ypg). Antonietti also helped the Huskers to a Big Eight Conference title and a berth in the 1989 Orange Bowl against Miami.
1987 (Junior)
A transfer from Notre Dame, Antonietti earned his first letter as a Husker after playing behind Andy Keeler and John Nelson at left guard as a junior in 1987. Antonietti helped the Big Red to a 10-2 overall record and a trip to the 1988 Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. Nebraska ranked second nationally in total offense (489.0 ypg), while ranking third in the NCAA in rushing (373.5 ypg) and scoring (38.5 ppg).
1986 (Redshirt)
Antonietti redshirted in his first season as a Husker after transferring from Notre Dame.
1985 (Sophomore)
Antonietti made the move from defense to offense for the Irish during spring practice to begin his second season at Notre Dame. He played in four games as a reserve center for the Fighting Irish in 1985. He was also voted the Hering Award winner as Notre Dame’s most improved offensive player in spring practice.
1984 (Freshman)
Antonietti was a reserve nose tackle at Notre Dame as a true freshman in 1984.
Chicago Mount Carmel High School
A prep All-American and all-state selection for Coach Bill Barz at Chicago’s Mount Carmel High School, Antonietti was the Tony Lawless Award winner as the MVP of the Chicago Catholic League in both 1982 and 1983. He attended Mount Carmel with Husker teammates Mike Murray and Nate Turner, who was also the Catholic League MVP in 1986. Antonietti was also the wrestling MVP of the Catholic League in 1983 and was voted the academic wrestler of the year in the state of Illinois. He was inducted into the Mount Carmel Hall of Fame in 2016.
Personal
The oldest of four children, Antonietti was born in Hammond, Ind. He was an English major at Nebraska and returned as a teacher and coach at Mount Carmel.
