1988 (Senior)
Lorenzo Hicks capped his final season as a Husker by recording 25 tackles, including 19 solos, as a corner for the Blackshirts. Hicks added an interception, three pass breakups and a tackle for loss (five yards). His interception came in Nebraska’s 7-3 slugfest win over rival Oklahoma in the regular-season finale to end OU’s 31-game Big Eight winning streak. He started 10 regular-season games at left cornerback. He helped the Big Red to a Big Eight title and a trip to the 1989 Orange Bowl against Miami, where he contributed two unassisted tackles, including a six-yard sack, while adding a pass breakup as NU’s starting left corner. The Blackshirts finished sixth nationally in pass defense (134.8 ypg) and seventh in total defense (262.8 ypg).

A three-year letterman, Hicks totaled 64 tackles (49 solos), one TFL, three interceptions, nine PBUs and two fumbles caused over 27 varsity games with 21 starts in his Husker career.

1987 (Junior)
Hicks started every game at left cornerback for the Huskers in 1987, finishing with 33 total tackles, including 25 solos. He also hauled in two interceptions, broke up six passes and caused two fumbles for the Blackshirts. Hicks produced one of his best days with a season-high eight tackles, including six solos, in NU’s 35-0 win over Oklahoma State. Hicks helped the Blackshirts rank sixth nationally in scoring defense (12.1 ppg), eighth in total defense (264.7 ypg) and ninth in rushing defense (107.0 ypg). He helped the Big Red to a 10-2 overall record and a trip to the 1988 Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. He added two tackles (one solo) against the Seminoles.

1986 (Sophomore)
Hicks earned his first varsity letter in his third season at Nebraska by totaling six tackles, including five solos. He appeared in five games.

1985 (Redshirt)
Hicks made the move from split end to cornerback in the spring of 1985 and redshirted during the 1985 fall campaign. He capped the spring with an 85-yard kickoff return touchdown in the Red-White Spring Game.

1984 (Freshman)
Recruited as a receiver, Hicks started at split end for Nebraska’s 4-1 freshman team in 1984. He led the freshman team with seven receptions for 91 yards.

Kansas City Southeast High School
Hicks caught 38 passes for 560 yards as a receiver, while hauling in 10 interceptions as a defensive back during his senior season for Coach Walt Thompson at Kansas City Southeast High School. Hicks also returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and added a 79-yard punt return TD.

Personal
The son of Mamie and Scipio Love, Lorenzo was born in Kansas City, Mo. He was an economics major at Nebraska. Hicks is the uncle of fellow Husker Blackshirts Carlos and Khalil Davis. The twin brothers were both four-time letterwinners as defensive linemen for the Big Red from 2015 to 2019. Both also played in the NFL.
