1988 (Senior)
Nebraska’s No. 3 outside linebacker behind All-American Broderick Thomas and fellow returning letterman Jeff Mills, Kurt Broer earned his second varsity letter after competing in two games and recording one assisted tackle on the season. He helped Nebraska capture the Big Eight title with an unbeaten (7-0) conference regular season on its way to an 11-2 overall record that included a trip to the 1989 Orange Bowl against Miami. The Blackshirts finished sixth nationally in pass defense (134.8 ypg) and seventh in total defense (262.8 ypg).
1987 (Junior)
Broer earned his first varsity letter after playing four regular-season games for the Huskers. He helped the Blackshirts rank sixth nationally in scoring defense (12.1 ppg), eighth in total defense (264.7 ypg) and ninth in rushing defense (107.0 ypg). He helped the Big Red to a 10-2 overall record and a trip to the 1988 Fiesta Bowl against Florida State.
1986 (Sophomore)
Broer was a non-lettered reserve as an outside linebacker for the Huskers in 1986.
1985 (Redshirt)
Broer redshirted in his second season at Nebraska in 1985.
1984 (Freshman)
A walk-on, Broer was an alternate at outside linebacker on Nebraska’s 4-1 freshman team in 1984. He recorded eight tackles, including one for a five-yard loss.
Lincoln Pius X High School
A three-year letterman for Coach Vinch Aldrich at Lincoln Pius X, Broer played tight end and defensive end for the Thunderbolts. He also lettered in wrestling and swimming and diving.
Personal
The son of Walt and Joy Broer, Kurt was born in Lincoln. He was a physical education major at Nebraska.
