Kent Smith Season 1977

1977 (Senior)
Kent recorded six tackles his senior year, two of which were unassisted and one pass break up. The Huskers finished with a 9-3 record and a Liberty Bowl win against North Carolina, 21-17.

1976 (Junior)
Smith was the Huskers starting monster in 1976. Kent finished with 46 total tackles, including 21 unassisted, he also recovered three rumbles, broke up two passes and recovered a blocked punt against Missouri for a touchdown. Also blocked a punt against Texas Tech in the Astro-Bluebonnett Bowl that led to another Husker score and a 27-24 win. Kent helped Nebraska finish the season with a 9-3-1 record .

1975 (Sophomore)
Kent backed up All-American Wonder Monds, recording 18 tackles, seven unassisted, one tackles for a loss of a yard, a fumble recovery, two interceptions and four pass break ups. Kent helped the Huskers finish the season with a 10-2 record and a Fiesta Bowl appearance against Arizona State.

1974 (Redshirt)
Kent redshirted his second season as a Husker. 

1973 (Freshman)
Kent was a standout defensive man with the ‘73 freshman team. 

Lincoln High (Thief River Falls, Minn.)
Kent was an All-State football player under Coach James Sims. He was also a solid basketball and track performer. Kent was majoring in English education and is the son of Russell and Shirley Smith.
