1979 (Senior)
Ruud lettered as a reserve linebacker and captain of the special teams. John finished his final season with ten tackles, including five unassisted. He helped Nebraska to a 10-2 finish and a Cotton Bowl appearance against Houston in 1979.
1978 (Junior)
John letters as a reserved and standout special teams performer. He recorded nine tackles and is remembered for his fourth quarter hit on Oklahoma’s Kelly Phelps on a kick off return. Nebraska finished the season with a 9-3 record and an appearance in the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma.
1977 (Sophomore)
John was a reserve for the 1977 Husker team. He helped the Huskers finish with a 9-3 record and a Liberty Bowl win against North Carolina, 21-17.
1976 (Redshirt)
John redshirted his second season as a Husker.
1975 (Freshman)
Ruud played as a linebacker for the undefeated 1975 team.
Jefferson High School (Bloomington, Minn.)
At Jefferson High School Ruud gained All American Honors as a fullback and linebacker. John was majoring in business and is the son of Robert and Marilyn Ruud.
