1979 (Senior)
Havekost started at left guard in 1979. John carried the ball on a guard around play in the Oklahoma game, getting 11 yards. Havekost was a key factor to the Huskers rushing attack, helping them to 327.3 yards per game. He helped Nebraska to a 10-2 finish and a Cotton Bowl appearance against Houston in 1979. 

1978 (Junior)
John was an alternate offensive lineman during his junior season. Nebraska finished the season with a 9-3 record and an appearance in the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma.

1977 (Sophomore)
Havekost was a reserve lineman for the Huskers, earning his first varsity letter, helping the Huskers finish with a 9-3 record and a Liberty Bowl win against North Carolina, 21-17. 

1976 (Redshirt)
John was named Mr. Redshirt for his strength ability. 

1975 (Freshman)
Havekost played with the 1975 freshman team. 

Scribner High School
John was an All-State offensive lineman at Scribner High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arden Havekost.
