1990 (Junior)
John Clarke earned a varsity letter at left tackle as a junior for the Huskers in 1990. Clarke helped Nebraska lead the Big Eight in rushing (340.0 ypg), total offense (444.4 ypg) and scoring (37.5 ppg). NU earned a trip to the 1991 Florida Citrus Bowl to face Georgia Tech.

1989 (Sophomore)
A non-lettered reserve at left tackle, Clarke was No. 3 on the NU depth chart behind Tom Punt and Terry Eyman. Clarke played in three games. The Big Red won the NCAA rushing title by averaging 375.3 yards per game, while ranking second nationally in scoring (44.7 ppg) and third in total offense (513.3 ypg). NU earned a trip to the 1990 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl to face Florida State.

1988 (Redshirt)
Clarke redshirted in his second season at Nebraska in 1988.

1987 (Freshman)
A walk-on, Clarke played as an alternate offensive guard and tackle for Coach Shane Thorell’s Husker junior varsity team in 1987.

Auburn High School
An all-area offensive tackle for Coach Brent Thie, Clarke also started at defensive tackle, where he recorded 66 total tackles, including 40 solos, while registering three sacks. Clarke was also the Class B heavyweight wrestling champion in 1987. He was a state champion power lifter with a dead lift of 495 pounds. He also competed in track at Auburn High School.

Personal
The son of Roger and Nancy Clarke, John was born May 11, 1969 in Auburn, Neb. He was a general studies major at Nebraska. He had one brother, Roger. John was a Lincoln Police Department K-9 officer and statewide certification trainer. He spent 21 years on the LPD force. He passed away on Feb. 25, 2013 at the age of 43.
