Memorial Stadium

1990 (Senior)
Spitzenberger was Nebraska's No. three left outside linebacker behind Jeff Mills and Travis Hill. Despite this Joe still played in four games and earned his first varsity letter for the Huskers during the 1990 season. He totaled four tackles, three of which were unassisted. 

1989 (Junior)
Spitzenberger saw action in four games for the Huskers. He recorded a sack for nine yards, despite this Joe did not letter. He helped the Cornhuskers to a 10–2 record and earn a berth in the Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. 

1988 (Sophomore)
Spitzenberger was a non-letting reserve at right outside linebacker, where he saw action in three games. 

1987 (Redshirt)
Spitzenberger redshirted his second season as a Husker. 

1986 (Freshman)
Spitzenberger played outside linebacker in four games as a reserve defensive end on Coach Scott Downing's 4-1 Husker Freshman Team. 

Omaha Creighton Prep High School
Joe played for Coach Tom Jaworski and was a Junior Jay teammate of two former Huskers, place-kicker Gregg Barrios and linebacker Mark Hagge.
