Jim Wightman Season 1977

1977 (Senior)
Wightman was a 1977 letterman after starting as the No. 1 weakside likebacker in both 1975 and ‘76. He was slowed by a knee injury, which required surgery in ‘77. He finished the season with 46 tackles, 16 unassisted and one tackle for a loss of six yards. The Huskers finished with a 9-3 record and a Liberty Bowl win against North Carolina, 21-17.

1976 (Junior)
Jim started every game in 1976 except Hawaii and Texas Tech. He was Nebraska;s second leading tackler behind All-Big Eight linebacker Clete Pillen. He finished with 123 tackles, with 56 unassisted. Jim also recovered three fumbles. Jim helped Nebraska finish the season with a 9-3-1 record and an Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl win over Texas Tech, 27-24.

1975 (Sophomore)
Jim was a starting linebacker for the Huskers as a sophomore. He finished with 96 tackles, 33 unassisted and six for a loss of 12 yards. He also recorded two fumble recoveries and a broken up pass. Wightman helped the Huskers finish the season with a 10-2 record and a Fiesta Bowl appearance against Arizona State.

1974 (Redshirt)
Jimi redshirted his second season at Nebraska. 

1973 (Freshman)
Wightman was a defensive end performer for the 1973 freshman team. 

Omaha North High School
Wightman earned All-State honors at Omaha North under Coach Leonard Bond. Jim was an elementary education major and is the son of Darrell Wightman Sr. and Mrs. Flossie Payne.
