• 1980 Academic All-Big Eight 

1980 (Senior)
Jim was a three year letterman for the Huskers at fullback, in 1980 Kotera was backup to Andra Franklin. He finished the year with 178 yards on 41 carries and a touchdown. Jim also saw action in the Sun Bowl against Mississippi State where he had two carries for seven yards, helping the Huskers to a 31-17 win and a 10-2 record overall. 

1979 (Junior)
Kotera was a junior reserve letterman, he gained 119 yards on 17 carries for a 7.0 average, and scored two touchdowns on a four yard run against Penn State and on a five yard run against Oklahoma State. His longest run from scrimmage was 18 yards against New Mexico State and his best rushing day was against New Mexico State, he had three carries for 38 yards. Nebraska finished the season with a 10-2 record and an appearance in the Cotton Bowl against Houston. 

1978 (Sophomore)
As a sophomore letterman, he gained 117 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns. Nebraska finished the season with a 9-3 record and an appearance in the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma.

1977 (Freshman)
Jim was a powerful, strong blocker for the 1977 freshman team. 

Omaha Gross
Jim was an All-State and All-Metro in football under Coach Stan Macaitis, he was also an All-State baseball player. He was majoring in business administration. He is the son of James and Katherine Kotera.
