1988 (Senior)
One of the most versatile players on Nebraska’s offensive line, Jeff Anderson started the first two games at center while also handling the long-snapping duties throughout the season for the Big Eight champion Huskers. The 6-4, 270-pounder from Norfolk, Neb., answered the bell for the Big Red to open the season, starting in the Kickoff Classic against Texas A&M and against Utah State in place of All-American Jake Young, who suffered a knee sprain in practice just days before the season opener. Anderson earned his second varsity letter while helping Nebraska claim the NCAA rushing title (382.3 ypg). The Huskers also ranked sixth nationally in scoring (39.5 ppg) and seventh in total offense (477.9 ypg). He was a key part of NU’s run to a Big Eight Conference title and a berth in the 1989 Orange Bowl against Miami.
1987 (Junior)
Anderson handled long snapping on punts and place-kicks while also backing up starting center Jake Young. Anderson played in every regular-season game and the Fiesta Bowl, while also serving as a backup at both the left and right tackle spots on the line to provide crucial depth. He earned his first varsity letter while helping the Big Red to a 10-2 overall record and a trip to the 1988 Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. Nebraska ranked second nationally in total offense (489.0 ypg), while ranking third in the NCAA in rushing (373.5 ypg) and scoring (38.5 ppg).
1986 (Sophomore)
Anderson was a non-lettered reserve on the offensive line in 1986.
1985 (Redshirt)
Anderson redshirted in his second season at Nebraska in 1985.
1984 (Freshman)
A walk-on, Anderson started at center for Nebraska’s 4-1 freshman team.
Norfolk High School
An all-conference and honorable-mention all-state lineman for Coach Hal Kuck at Norfolk High School, Anderson played center, defensive tackle and defensive end. He was named the Omaha World-Herald’s state player of the week as a junior in 1983 when he scored two touchdowns as a defensive tackle in a two-minute span by recovering an opponent fumble in the end zone, before returning a blocked punt for the second score.
