Jamal Rule has played in every game with two starts this season. He leads Nebraska 42 carries, 333 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. Rule has also caught four passes for 82 yards and one score. Entering the Maryland game, Rule ranks seventh nationally in yards per carry (7.9), 12th in rushing touchdowns (5) and 14th in total touchdowns (6th).
Rule had an impressive collegiate debut against Ohio, totaling 169 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns on only 17 touches. He rushed 15 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns while catching two passes for 47 yards and one score. His 122 rushing yards marked the first 100-yard rushing game by a Husker freshman running back in a season opener since 2004. Rule also became just the sixth Big Ten freshman since 1995 to have two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in the same game. He was graded as the nation's No. 2 running back in Week 1 by PFF College. For his performance against Ohio, Rule was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Rule started but played only the first half against Bowling Green. He had eight carries for 88 yards with a career-long 59-yard touchdown run. Rule posted his second career 100-yard rushing game against North Dakota, running for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. He had a 55-yard touchdown run, marking his second consecutive game with a touchdown run longer than 50 yards. Rule also had two catches for 35 yards against the Fighting Hawks. Rule was limited to only four carries at Michigan State as he was injured early and did not return.
Before Nebraska (Charlotte Christian HS)
Rule was a standout running back for Charlotte Christian School in North Carolina. He rushed for more than 2,500 yards in his final two seasons, averaging more than 160 rushing yards per game.
