1993 (Senior)
Beler played in nine game (starting in eight) during the ’93 season. Beler recorded 46 total tackles (18 unassisted) and two tackles totaling four yards lost in the first nine games of the season until he was out for the remainder of the year with injuries. He also had a sack for a three yard loss against Colorado State.

1992 (Junior)
Suffering a severe ankle sprain prior to the start of the season, Beler missed the first three games, but was able to make a strong return. He saw extensive playing time at strong safety as the season progressed. Beler had great speed and was a member of the Huskers’ first team ‘dime defense. Beler had a season high seven tackles and caused a fumble in the final game against Kansas State in Tokyo, Japan. He finished the season with 22 tackles (nine solo) and two pass breakups. Beler played in the Federal Express Orange Bowl vs. Florida State and recorded two tackles (one solo).

1991 (Sophomore)
As Nebraska’s alternate strong safety, Beler played in all 11 games and finished as Nebraska’s 12th-leading tackler with 41, including 17 solos. His top tackle game came against Oklahoma State where Beler recorded eight in NU’s 49-15 win. He also had an interception against the Cowboy’s, returning it 22 yards to the OSU 11 setting up a Husker touchdown. He also had six tackles against Kansas, and five each against Colorado State and Missouri. As a transfer from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa, Beler enrolled at NU for the spring semester in 1991 and went through spring drills with the Huskers. Beler adjusted well and worked his way into the depth chart in Nebraska’s 9-2-1 season.

1989 Ellsworth CC (Iowa)
Playing junior college football at Ellsworth CC in Iowa, Beler received all-region and all-conference honors as a freshman for Coach Lloyd Sisco in 1989. He helped the Panthers reach the junior college championship game. He graduated in three semesters, then redshirted in 1990 to save a year at Nebraska.

Bayonee HS
Beler was a two-time all-state running back, and also played linebacker for Coach Don Anhern. He graduated in May of ’88, signing a letter of intent with Nebraska, but he sat out from school for a year.

Personal
Ernie is the son of Anna Sargent, and has four brothers and three sisters. He was born Dec.5, 1968, in Bayonee, N.J. Beler studied human development at UNL and graduated in December of 1993. Beler was a volunteer speaker for Lincoln Public Schools.
