Career Summary
A starting right tackle for Nebraska on both sides of the ball as a senior in 1952, Ed Husmann went on to an 11-year career in the NFL. A three-year letterman for Coach Bill Glassford's Cornhusker teams in 1950, 1951 and 1952, Husmann was one of Nebraska's co-captains as a senior and earned NU's Novak Trophy, presented to the senior who "best exemplifies courage and determination despite all odds in the manner of Nebraska All-America center Tom Novak."

Following his senior season with the Huskers, Husmann played in the East-West Shrine Game before being selected in the ninth-round of the 1953 NFL Draft by the Chicago Cardinals. He spent 11 seasons in the NFL during a 13-year span from 1953 to 1965. He spent his rookie season with the Cardinals in 1953, before serving in the military in 1954 and 1955. He rejoined Chicago for four seasons from 1956 to 1960, before spending the 1960 season with the Dallas Cowboys.

After one season in Dallas, Husmann spent five seasons with the Houston Oilers in the AFL from 1961 to 1965. He concluded his professional career by spending the 1966 season with the Edmonton Eskimos in the Candian Football League. In his 134-game career in the NFL, Husmann played every position on the offensive and defensive line except center. He played 70 games with the Cardinals and Cowboys in the NFL, before appearing in his final 64 games with the Oilers in the AFL.

Husmann was a three-time AFL All-Star from 1961 to 1963 and earned first-team All-AFL honors in 1962. He helped the Oilers to the AFL championship in 1961.

The 6-0, 210-pound tackle from Ogallala, Neb., helped the Huskers to a 5-4-1 record, including a 3-2-1 mark in Big Seven Conference action in 1952. NU enjoyed its best season with Husmann on the field in 1950, when he helped the Huskers to a 6-2-1 record, a second-place finish in the Big Seven with a 4-2 league mark, and a No. 17 final national ranking from the Associated Press. The Huskers struggled to a 2-8 mark during Husmann's junior season.

Personal
Edward Earl Husmann was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Schuyler, Neb. He graduated from Ogallala High School before coming to the University of Nebraska. He was inducted into the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame in 2006.
