  • 1977 Guy Chamberlin Award

1977 (Senior)
Ed won the Guy Chamberlin Award (an annual college football award given to a senior Husker who demonstrates the dedication, qualities, and tradition of the legendary player Guy Chamberlin.) in 1977. He finished the season with five completions for 79 yards, along with 17 rushing attempts for 50 yards. He helped the Huskers finish with a 9-3 record and a Liberty Bowl win against North Carolina, 21-17.

1976 (Junior)
Burns was a reserve as a junior and recorded on completion for seven yards. Ed helped Nebraska finish the season with a 9-3-1 record and an Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl win over Texas Tech, 27-24.

1975 (Sophomore)
As a reserve quarterback his sophomore year, Ed helped the Huskers finish the season with a 10-2 record and a Fiesta Bowl appearance against Arizona State.

1974 (Redshirt)
Ed redshirted his second season as a Husker. 

1973 (Freshman)
Burns shared quarterback duties with Randy Garcia on the freshman team. 

Omaha Rummel High School
Ed was an All-State football and basketball performer at Omaha Rummel under Coach Dallas Dyer. Ed was majoring in business and is the son of James and Mary Jo Burns. Ed signed with the New Orleans Saints as a free agent.
