2012 (Outlook)
Junior Dijon Washington appeared in every game for Nebraska on special teams in 2011, helping the Huskers boast one of the Big Ten's best coverage units.
The 6-0, 185-pound Washington also added depth at cornerback for the Huskers, and this fall the Californian is looking to position himself for an expanded role at cornerback in a deep and talented Husker secondary.
2011 (Sophomore)
Washington finished with five tackles, including four on NU's punt and kickoff coverage squads. Washington had a season-high two tackles in the opener against Chattanooga, including one while seeing action in the secondary. He added stops on coverage teams against Washington, Minnesota and Northwestern.
2010 (Redshirt Freshman)
Washington added depth in the secondary, and made his debut in Nebraska's September win at Washington.
2009 (Redshirt)
Washington redshirted and worked on the NU scout team.
Before Nebraska (Leuzinger HS)
Washington closed out an impressive career with a strong senior season at Leuzinger High School. Washington had about 70 tackles and two interceptions in 2008, helping his team to a 6-4 record. He was an all-league pick and a third-team CIF all-state selection for his efforts as a senior.
Washington was a standout on both sides of the ball in 2007. As a wide receiver, he caught 15 passes for approximately 300 yards and five scores. On defense he earned first-team all-league honors after tallying 50 tackles, two interceptions and one sack. Washington also saw significant action as a sophomore. Washington chose Nebraska over Washington State, Oregon State and San Diego State.
Personal
Washington was born on July 4, 1991, and is the son of Kemba Smith. He is majoring in business administration and was a 2010 Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll pick. Washington has volunteered his time with Nebraska's local hospital visits.
