David Liegl Season 1980

1980 (Senior)
Dave was a three year letterman for Nebraska. He was Nebraskas’ No. 2 left corner and top punt returner. As a senior he had one pass broken up and returned 28 punts for 224 yards and 8.0 average. 

Dave saw playing time in the Sun Bowl against Mississippi State when he returned three punts for 32 yards, an average of 10.7 yards per return. He helped the Huskers to a 31-17 win and a 10-2 record overall. 

1979 (Junior)
As a junior right corner backer behind Means, Liegl had three tackles and three passes broken up (Oklahoma State, Colorado and Iowa State). Dave played well in the Oklahoma game when Means was injured. Dave was a good return man in 1979, he returned 16 punts for 112 yards and a 7.0 average. 

He had a great Cotton Bowl game against Houston, returning three punts for 58 yards, including a 40-yarder in the third quarter. Dave helped Nebraska to a 10-2 finish in 1979.

1978 (Sophomore)
Dave lettered as a sophomore behind Tim Fischer. In ‘78, he had 10 tackles, one fumble recovery and one pass broken up. 

1977 (Redshirt)
Dave redshirted his second season as a Husker. 

1976 (Freshman)
Liegl walked on and starred with the 1976 freshman squad. 

Century City High School (Central City, Neb.)
Dave played high school football for Central City. He majored in accounting and is the son of Mr. Ernest Liegl.
