1976 (Senior)
Dan started at left guard for the Cornhuskers two straight years (1975-76). Dan was named All-Big Eight by the Associated Press and was also Honorable Mention All-American. Schmidt helped the Huskers lead the Big Eight in passing offense, averaging 188.0 passing yards per game, while helping Nebraska quarterback Vince Ferragamo to lead the conference with 2,086 yards of total offense. Dan helped Nebraska finish the season with a 9-3-1 record and an Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl win over Texas Tech, 27-24.

1975 (Junior)
Dan earned the starting left guard spot as a junior. He earned Second Team All-Big Eight. Dan helped the Huskers to the best scoring offense in the Big Eight (32.1) and the second leading passing offense (158.4 ypg). The Huskers finished the season with a 10-2 record and a Fiesta Bowl appearance against Arizona State.

1974 (Sophomore)
Dan lettered behind Tom Alwards in 1974. Nebraska finished the season with a 9-3 record and a Sugar Bowl win against Florida (13-10).

1973 (Redshirt)
Dan redshirted his second season as a Husker.

1972 (Freshman)
Dan started on the undefeated freshman team. 

St. Patrick’s High (North Platte, Nebraska)
Schmidt earned All-Conference and All-State honors under Coach Mike Lair. Dan was majoring in business and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Schmidt.
