  • Academic All-Big Eight (1987)

1987 (Senior)
All though being the No. 2 quarterback behind returning starter, Steve Taylor, Blakeman saw plenty of playing time during key moments. Blakeman threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns on 23 of 37 pass attempts during the season. For the second straight year Blakeman started for the Huskers against Kansas where he threw for 100 yards and a touchdown in a Nebraska win over the Jayhawks (54-2). Blakeman also contributed in Nebraska's Homecoming game against Kansas State where he came off the bench and completed 90 percent of his passes (9 of 10) for 165 yards and a touchdown en route to another Nebraska win. Blakeman helped Nebraska to a 10-2 record and a Fiesta Bowl appearance against Florida State.


1986 (Junior)
Blakeman served as the primary backup behind Steve Taylor during the 1986 season. Clete completed 19 of 37 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns along with two interceptions during the season. Blakeman also rushed for 110 yards and four touchdowns. When Taylor was out with a bruised back Blakeman stepped in and helped lead Nebraska to a 70-0 win of the Kansas Jayhawks where he threw for 94 yards and three touchdowns on eight completions. Blakeman also rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown. Blakeman stepped up in key moments to help the Huskers to a 10-2 record and a Sugar Bowl win over LSU (30-15). 

1985 (Sophomore)
Despite being the No. three signal caller Blakeman still lettered during the 1985 season. Completing 3 of 5 passes for 22 yards and tacking on another 65 yards rushing. He helped Nebraska to a 9-3 record and an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl against Michigan. 

1984 (Freshman)
Blakeman did not letter in his first year of action as a Husker. Nebraska finished the season with a 10-2 record and a Sugar Bowl win against LSU (28-10). 

1983 (Hardship)
Blakeman missed his entire first year at Nebraska with a severe back bruise he suffered in the pre-season scrimmage. 

Norfolk High School
Blakeman was an Honorable-mention All-American and an All-State pick at quarterback for coach Hal Kuck at Norfolk High School, Neb. During his senior year he completed 88 passes for 1,137 yards and seven touchdowns. Blakeman was also a three-sport all-conference athlete in football, basketball and track. 

Personal
Son of Glen and Marlene Blakeman. He was born in Blair, Neb. Clete joined the NFL in 2008 and became a referee in 2010. He served as the head referee for Super Bowl 50 between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. Outside of officiating, Blakeman is a partner and personal injury attorney in Omaha, Nebraska.
